The True Church of Jesus Christ

Screen Shot 2020-04-27 at 6.32.23 PMIt’s been awhile since I last wrote. Lots going on in my life, my work, raising kids, etc. Lately though I’ve felt really compelled to share with you this message today. When it comes to our message, that of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a whole, there is a simple and, I believe, quite obvious reason it stirs up so much controversy at times, and that reason is this: the Church really is TRUE or, if it isn’t, then it’s making one of the most preposterous, conceited, and even divisive claims possible in the world of faith and religion today. And, what is that statement? That it is the only true church of Jesus Christ upon the face of the earth today. Think about what that really means to every man, woman, and children worldwide.

If the message is true, it’s historic, earth shattering, even transformational news. If the Church of Jesus Christ really was established by God by revelation, and if it really truly is led by a living prophet and living apostles today, it’s the biggest news since, well, since the Christ’s resurrection itself. Move over moon landing! Move over 9-11 or Coronavirus or the invention of the iPhone or the Internet. This is way more momentous than any of these.

If it really is true, then it’s something everyone should know about, care about, and that everyone of us can benefit from in our lives. If it’s real, it’s like a cure for cancer that could end the plague and heartache caused by it permanently, once and for all. That is exactly what the Restoration of the Gospel achieves. But, it’s not a disease of the cells like cancer is. It’s a disease, an epidemic, of ignorance and fear … of not knowing truly who we are, where we came from, why we’re here on earth, and where we’re headed after we’re dead. I’ve addressed this topic in pasts posts but it’s true that most people these days are deathly (no pun intended) afraid of death. They’re afraid of the “unknown,” of maybe the pain, but mostly the finality and uncertainty of it all. They don’t know who they ARE and they don’t know what to EXPECT. This is just one of the ways in which the Church and Restored gospel are providing light in a world of darkness.

Screen Shot 2020-04-27 at 6.33.13 PMAnd, it does create controversy, conflict, and a seemingly inequitable amount of opposition. Why is that do you think? I personally believe it’s because not everyone WANTS a world filled with light. Just as Joseph Smith, the early church saints, and even many of us today meet with scrutiny and at times disdain, the battle rages on as someone (and we all know who that is) wages war, seeking to keep the world in darkness and us as people unaware. Billions today are exactly this … UNAWARE of the tremendous blessings available to them. They’re UNAWARE of the truth, the light, the certainty, and hope that has been revealed and ushered into the world in these the last days. They struggle on, wandering, wondering, questioning, never truly at peace. It’s the way the devil wants it. It is ultimately his greatest goal. If he can’t own us completely or overpower us once and for all, the next best thing is to keep us (and the truth, and his malicious “counter-plan”) as far as possible from the light.

Some oppose the work because they’re simply angry, or afraid. They may feel justified in their complaints because they lost their faith and fell away and now they feel it necessary to try to justify their stance (i.e. their rejection of the path). Not everyone is inspired by Satan. I’m not saying that at all (though there are definitely some who most certainly are). Many are just scared, maybe they were offended, they’re hurting, or they’re just struggling to forgive. Others don’t understand or agree with the principles or practices of the Church, and might feel it’s their job or even mission to try to oppose it or tear it down. Personally, I’ve questioned repeatedly how that could ever be right … tearing down another’s faith and an organization that worldwide does so much good in people’s lives. For what purpose? It doesn’t make very much sense at all.

Screen Shot 2020-04-27 at 6.33.36 PMAnyway. The Church and its message is definitely a divider of sorts … a very real “line in the sand,” as it were. It’s one of the most important “litmus tests” that exist here on earth. Take the test—really put it to the test—and it can absolutely change your life. Or, if you ignore it, simply leave you where you are, though, to be honest, that is rarely the outcome. I believe it’s rare that one comes in contact with the Church and really, truly studies it out to determine for themselves if it is true or not … I believe it’s rare for such individuals to come away unchanged. How can it? Now you know. What you do with it is up to you.

The key is to this knowledge is, first, whether you will agree to keep an open mind, if you will really, truly seek to listen closely to the spirit, and really, truly seek to KNOW … with the commitment and intent to follow if you too come to know it’s true. The truth is, you’ll probably never receive that reassurance if you aren’t seeking with, as The Book of Mormon calls it, real, sincere intent. It’s really, in my own opinion, a waste effort in any other way than this. The Lord knows when you’re serious. The Spirit rarely confirms lackluster, have-hearted, insincere requests. The dark side will do all in its power to keep you from the knowledge and continue to distract and dissuade you if it can. You have to really, truly WANT to know to get to the end of this faith pathway as it were. But, I’ll tell you: the view from the end is worth whatever price or effort it took.

If you do press through, I’ll promise you this one thing: it will absolutely change your life forever. You’ll never be the same, especially if you choose to embrace it and make it your own. Millions of members all over the world have put it to this test, and they will attest that it’s like nothing else. What will be your journey, ultimate and result? Only you can say but I wish you good journey and I will tell you this: it really is worth finding out.

This is The true Church of Jesus Christ. It really is His. He runs it and we can know this for ourselves. He’s promised us He will confirm this truth. See Book of Mormon, Moroni 10: 3-5. You don’t have to take my word for it. Make the effort and, if you do, you too will realize what a glorious difference it can make. Just know that it (likely) will not be an easy journey. Be ready. Stay strong. Hang in there. And know, if nothing else, we’re here for you. You really aren’t alone in this fight.

The answers and knowledge and peace you’ll find? It really is worth just about any price.

I wish you good luck.

Warmest regards,

Patrick Laing

PS – One last thought: when we say this is the TRUE Church of Jesus Christ, that isn’t meant to sound arrogant or demeaning in any way. We just believe that MORE truth and knowledge has been brought to earth. We also believe that every man, woman, and child will have the opportunity to learn and know this truth, be it in this life or the next. You too can know it, if you’d like to try. 1. This is a wonderful article!! Thank you for sharing it—well written and rings with truth. When did you begin writing this again. Is The Latter-Day Light your new web title to replace Daily Mormon?

Hope you had a great day. You have been in our thoughts and prayers.
