Christ Has Called Us To Be Fishers of Men

We all know that Christ called his apostles to be “Fishers of Men” … and the Bible says they “straightway left their nets to follow him” (see Matt. 4: 18-22).  What we may not remember, though, is that the same charge, the same invitation, is extended to all of us as well, especially as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We Had a Great Day of Fishing Today

That’s one reason I’m maintaining this daily blog, in hopes of doing my own part to try to share the gospel, even in the face of the critics I run into every now and then.

Screen Shot 2018-08-11 at 1.06.22 AM.pngI was thinking about this passage today, especially, because I went fishing at the mouth of The Columbian River (in Oregon USA) with my friend again, the atheist I told you about previously and who I have really come to appreciate very much

Once again, we had a lovely conversation en route to the Oregon Coast and back. He asked me more good questions like “Why do some people say Mormons aren’t Christians?” and “Why do some people say Joseph Smith was a fraud?” (etc.). I had the opportunity to tell him the whole story of the Great Apostasy and the Restoration of the Gospel in this “last dispensation.” He was intrigued, I think. He certainly asked good questions. It was a really cool conversation.

Mormon EldersWe talked about business as well, family, sports, and life in general. Like I started to say, it was a perfect day.

It’s late. We just got home and I’m exhausted. I think I’ll write more tomorrow. (I might talk a little about Mormon missionaries if that’s okay with you all … why they do what they do, how it changes them, and what it says about us as a church).

Until then … have a great night!
