One of my favorite scriptures comes from the Doctrine and Covenants, the collection of revelations that the Prophet Joseph Smith (and others) have received over the years since 1820 when Joseph was first called as a prophet at 14 years of age. The two verses go along with the reference I made the other day to the “seed of faith” that grows (or doesn’t grow) depending on whether it’s a “good seed” or not (in Alma 32: 28) and the additional reference to the simple fact that “by their fruits ye shall know them” (Matthew 7: 16-20).
The verses I’m referring to are D & C 50: 24-25.
24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
25 And again, verily I say unto you, and I say it that you may know the truth, that you may chase darkness from among you.
It’s a pretty simple yet powerful reminder. Receive “light” (i.e. truth, goodness, honesty, etc.) into your life, and continue seeking it (i.e. learning, growing, trying to understand, etc.) and the promise from our Heavenly Father is that He will bless you with more of the same.
You’re on the right track if you’re investigating the restored gospel of Christ available through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons). Despite the untruths that are often spread about us … despite the opposition that we face and the various challenges, we all undergo as part of mortality … ours is one of the few religions that’s actually GROWING worldwide and there is much good being done and lives being blessed by it (and there’s nothing Satan can do—especially in the long run—to stop it). He’s trying, of course, and he is crafty. He’s influenced a lot of people and will continue to do so, at least for a time. But, we know—it’s been promised—that he will lose in the end. We don’t have to wait until then, though: together we can “chase away” his darkness. We have to. The Lord needs our help, each and every one of us.
If you’re helping or even exploring how you might be able to do so, you’re on the right path and I commend you. Keep up the great work.
Have a great 24-hours.
